a)- Clip all hair and baby hair away from the edge of the hair unit. This will prevent the hair from getting stuck in the bonding adhesive(s) when applying your wig.
b)- Cautiously cut the lace around the entire hairline of the full lace wig or lace wig. You may cut some or even all the lace off but beginners or first timers, must leave a little more of lace (1/2"), so that it will be easier to attach to your chosen bonding system (skin grade glue and/or tape)
Preparing Skin and own Hair for Lace Wig Application:
a)- Wash, condition and dry your own hair. After your hair is completely dried, braid it in small cornrows, or tightly wrap your it on the top of your head for a flat look.
b)- Use alcohol 99% on a cotton pad and rub it around your entire hairline, to remove any oil residue that may be on your skin.
(TIP): Apply scalp protector aka skin shield product, to protect your skin from the adhesives. Doing so will provide a healthy barrier between your skin and the adhesives. (This step is very important for those who workout, swim or those with sensitive skin.)
(TIP): To protect your own hair, put on a flesh-toned wig cap, and line it up with your hairline, so that, your own hair is completely covered. Doing so will provide a protective layer for your own hair, and will also create a scalp illusion. Also make sure that the wig cap is pulled closed to your hairline. To prevent the wig cap from slipping, allow the glue and/or tape used to attached your hair unit, to overlap onto the nylon stocking wig cap or loosely stitch the cap in place.
Lace Wig Application using Liquid Adhesives
a)- Apply with a small flat wooden cosmetic stick or a small make-up brush, a thin coat of skin grade liquid adhesive (glue) around the perimeter of your hairline.
Double check all around your hairline for some lace part that is not well bonded and touch-up any areas where the lace of your hairpiece is not securely bonded. Should you need to remove any excess of liquid adhesive( glue residue) use a Q-Tip dabbed in some alcohol 99% as solvent.
c)- When you have completed the bonding application process around the all perimeter of your hairline, tie it down securely with a silk or satin scarf. This will allow the bonding agent to set and dry properly to the lace of your hair unit.
NOTE: Should you use a skin grade tape and liquid adhesive combination, the liquid adhesive (glue) should go on your skin and the tape should go on the lace. This will actually protect the lace from the wear and tear of the liquid bond.
Lace Wig Application using Skin Grade Bonding Tape

c)- Then, peel off the protective paper from the upper side of the double-sided tape and apply the bonding sidealong the perimeter of your hairline. Press firmly on the tape to secure it into place.
(NOTE): You should always leave small spaces between the bonding tape strips, to allow water and/or sweat to escape, specially if you wear your full lace wig or lace wig, for extended periods of time.
d)- Position your wig on your head, and starting at the center of front hairline, proceed to bond the lace or your hairpice to the tape moving toward the side to one temple area, then do the same to the the other side, pressing firmly down on the lace to set the bonding in place, one section at the time, and using a fine tooth comb to keep hair and baby hair clear from the bonding areas.
e)- When you have completed the lace bonding application process, tie down your hairline with a silk or satin scarf. This will allow the bonding agent of the tape to set and dry properly. You may also sit under a dryer during this step to aide in the drying process.
