Common Mistakes to Avoid with the Hair of your Full Lace Wig
There are many common hair mistakes that many people make with their full lace wigs, without even realizing it.
Hopefully this simple list below will help you understand what they are, and how to avoid them.
Following the Latest Trend It is hard not to want to follow the latest hairstyle trends. Specially if your favorite celebrities are sporting that very latest hairstyle, it is understandable that one would like to cut and/or style the hair their full lace wig that way too. Before you chop off the hair of your full lace wig and/or dye it any trendy color, ask yourself first, “will that look good on me?” , “Will that hairstyle fit my lifestyle?”, “Will I still like that hairstyle a week from now?” If any of the answer is no, then do not go with that new trendy hairstyle! Every hair style does not look good on everyone. Depending on the shape of your face and the texture of the hair of your full lace wig, the very hair style that you love on someone else could turn out to look completely different on you, You want a style that will work with (and compliment) your features, enhance your natural beauty, and fit your lifestyle.
Cutting Your Own Hair It seems tempting sometimes to try to trim your own hair, especially in between hair salon visits. If you know what you are doing, this can work out fine, but more often than not, it turns out badly. One wrong snip and you have taken an irreversible chunk out of the hair of your full lace wig. Bangs for example, may seem simple to cut or trim, but they are probably the most obvious, if you mess up. They are the first thing that people will notice. If you really feel the need to cut or trim a bang in the hair of your full lace wig at home, please ask for someone else’s opinion first, and ask another person too, and sleep over it before acting up on it, otherwise leave it up to the professionals.
Brushing/Combing Too Much Brushing or/and combing the hair of your full lace wig too much is one of those mistakes that many people do. Brushing or/and combing the hair of your full lace wig too much can cause the hair knots in the lace base cap to loosen, resulting in heavy shedding and in severe hair thinning of your full lace wig
Towel Drying Hair When you get out of the shower, it is only natural to want to wrap the hair of your full lace wig up in a towel to help drain out some of the moisture. This step is fine, but once you take the hair out of the towel, that is where the mistake usually begins. Rubbing your hair with the towel to once again try to remove excess water/moisture can be damaging to the hair, because of the resulting friction and can cause breakage or even frizz. Instead, just try to blot gently the moisture out with the towel. Best is to use a hair dryer set on low heat.
Dyeing Your Hair At Home Trying to dye your hair at home is not necessarily a bad thing; you just need to be smart about it. First and foremost you need to know what you are doing, and how you will do it, meaning you need to have a plan, as of the colors (which color you start with and which color you want to achieve), as of the products and as of the product brands .All hair color products and products brands are not born equal. Do you research thoroughly first. The first major common mistake is picking out a hair color based on the color featured on the box. Beware, as that color may turn out differently depending on the shade your hair already is. Leaving the hair color the proper amount of time on the hair of your full lace wig, is key as well - too long and your hair can get over processed, and leaving it on too little will not give the hair of your full lace wig enough time for the color to take. No matter how many times you have colored hair before, read the directions about the product you are about to use thoroughly!
Shampooing too often Shampooing your hair every day may seem like the right thing to do, however it sure going to be overkill. Washing the hair of your full lace wig every day will cause the hair to look duller, as it stripped the hair from it natural or processed shine. Shampoo the hair of your full lace wig, once (1) a week, and if you exercise every day, three (3) times a week using a gentle shampoo, like a baby shampoo. Just massage softly the lace base cap of your full lace wig, rinse with lukewarm water, then apply a nourishing conditioner for 5 minutes and rinse with clear lukewarm water
Using Too Much Product As the saying goes, too much of any good thing is bad. Using products in the hair of your full lace wig can help to maintain shape, add volume, remove frizz and plenty of other helpful things - just remember to use these products in moderation. Too much can cause the hair of your full lace wig to look greasy, lifeless, dull, and can end up weighing you down. You want to look natural, like your hair if styled has been styled effortlessly.
Wearing often Your Hair In A Ponytail Having a bad hair day? The easy solution is to pull your hair back into a ponytail. This is fine every once in a while, but wearing this style too often can be damaging to your hair. Pulling it back may tug on the lace around the perimeter of your head, and hurt your skin as it is glued to the lace, or can tear up the lace itself. Also the elastic hair band use to do the pony tail, can cause mild to severe breakage to the hair, depending on the type of the band.
Using Too Much Heat This is probably the most obvious mistake one can make, but it is easy to overlook it. Between all the hair tools on the market – hair dryers, curling irons, crimpers, hot rollers, and flat irons – one can easily get carried away while using any of them. Those hair tools do help hair look great and achieve great hair styles, however using these tools too often can damage the hair of your full lace wigs in many irreversible. Too much heat on the hair can break the cuticle of Indian Remy hair for example, or make hair brittle, or even cause severe breakage. Using heat activated shampoo and conditioner can help rejuvenate the hair of your full lace wig , but moderation is the key, and once a month is more than enough to keep the hair of your full lace wig strong, shiny and beautiful.

V/S FLAT IRONS
A flat iron is a versatile styling tool that exists since antique times. Flat irons nowadays are safe, gentle on hair and can be used to straighten hair, but also to make curls and flips. But like any tool, the key is in knowing how to use it.
Prepare the Hair of Your Full Lace Wig:
Styling products, like gel, mousse, cream or grease and environmental dust and dirt build up in your hair every day, and must be thoroughly cleaned away before you use a flat iron on the hair of your full lace wig, or the hair of your unit will stick, have clumps and will very easily damage.
For manageable hair that responds well to styling and remains healthy, you will need to shampoo the hair of your unit thoroughly and condition it well, before using a flat iron.
Use quality moisturizing shampoos and nutrient conditioners, in order to prime and protect the hair before the rigors of hot iron styling. This can be done right before using a flat iron or even the previous day.
After you have rinse off the conditioner, towel dry and while the hair of your full lace wig is still damp, apply a thermal spray or a heat treatment pack, making sure you avoid putting any on the lace of the cap. Using a thermal spray or a heat treatment pack on wet hair is optimal as it distributes the hair care product evenly and softens the hair as it dries. This type of hair treatment will protect the hair of your full lace wig, and increase the life of your hairstyle.
Then blow the hair of your unit dry, using a blow dryer with diffuser, set on low heat. Note: Flat irons that are "safe" to use on damp hair, however they will not produce the best results, without hair being completely dry.
We highly recommend a ceramic heated ionic hair dryer for gentle heat that dries your hair faster and reduces frizz, static and hair shaft damage. There is a great selection to choose from nowadays, one of the best being the T3 Tourmaline Dryer or the Elchim hair dryer.
The Right Flat Iron Type for you Hair Unit
A professional ceramic flat iron, unlike generic and cheaper flat irons, will have a ceramic heater and thick ceramic layers baked onto the plates. Note: Beware of the widely advertised Nano-ceramic flat iron. Nano-ceramic means that there are only small particles of ceramic onto the plate of the flat iron. Many lower grade flat iron manufacturers use this technique or apply onto the plates of the flat iron a light ceramic coating that easily scrapes off.
A ceramic flat iron produces negative ions and far infrared heat that is way gentler to the hair, that seals hair follicles to preserve moisture and ultimately conditions hair for added shine and health. A tourmaline flat iron or a titanium flat iron combines these elements with ceramic to increase the ionic output and radiate shine.
Bottom line is, as long as you go with a professional quality ceramic flat iron, you are making the healthiest choice for the hair of your full lace wig - Still need to pick the right size for optimal results.
Flat irons with plates 1" - 1.5" wide are great for most hair types, from short to medium length. Finer hair, like the silky textured hair of some full lace wigs, will need a narrower plate flat iron. In general these smaller flat irons are lighter and easier to control.
Flat irons with 2" plates or larger are great if the hair of your full lace wig is 20”-24”+ long, as a smaller flat iron will just make your styling more tedious.
You can also use larger plates for thicker, curlier hair, like the Yaki or Deep Wave or Water Wave textured hair of some full lace wigs, as this they might save some time, however you will sacrifice easy maneuverability.
Plates with rounded edges are outstanding for curls and flips - and will not leave any "dents" in your hair.
Temperature
Do not use more heat than necessary, when styling the hair of your full lace wig with a flat iron. Remember a flat iron that has variable temperature settings, will give you more styling flexibility and control.
For thick, coarse, or extra curly hair that is less easy to style, a higher heat setting between 350-400 degrees F will be more effective.
For fine, damaged or chemically treated hair, use lower heat settings, below 300 degrees F. Start with a lower heat setting and work up if necessary.
Normal hair should be heated at around 300-380 degrees F.
Choosing the Right Flat Iron
Nowadays flat irons are very different than what they used to be decades ago, and they are gentler on hair and easier to handle. They also come in many different colors like basic black, blue, green, purple, silver and even in pink. The best flat irons today are ceramic flat irons. Well established name-brand tools like the CHI flat iron, FHI flat iron or even Corioliss flat irons might cost more, but they are worthwhile according to the numerous outstanding reviews and magazine endorsements that those brands receive.
Lower profile flat irons like the Infrashine flat iron, or the HAI Cinvertible flat iron may have less media coverage, however they have been around for a long time and have built strong consumer’s confidence.
Most ceramic flat irons on the market use plates that are made of aluminum or titanium, then coated with several baked on layers of ceramic. Even high end, professional ceramic flat irons have more ceramic layers on the plates. That is because pure ceramic is much softer than metal-reinforced ceramic. There are flat irons with pure ceramic plates, like the high priced FHI Runway flat iron used by celebrity stylists, and the lower profile but highly comparable Hana Elite flat iron. The benefits of pure ceramic are real: expect far more even & diffuse heating, smooth handling, and have no fear about ceramic peeling or chipping away over time of use. Attention: Never clap the plates of such pure ceramic flat iron together and handle the iron gently. If you can afford it, pure ceramic irons are of exceptional quality and always receive excellent ratings from stylists and as well as consumers.
Using a Flat Iron on your Full Lace Wig
Unless you are not using one of those professional wet-to dry flat iron, like the excellent Corioliss Wet to Dry Tourmaline Ceramic Ionic Flat Iron, or the superb Farouk CHI Auto-Digital Wet to Dry Ceramic Flat Iron, make sure the hair of your full lace wig is completely dry before styling it with any flat iron. Any moisture could cause it to frizz right up. NOTE: If you just washed and conditioned the hair of your full lace wig, and the hair feels cool to the touch, it's probably still damp.
Use a wide teeth comb gently and get all the tangles out of the hair of your full lace wig - then part the hair in sections no wider than the plate size of your flat iron. Use clips to keep the hair of your full lace wig separated while you style it with your flat iron.
Remember, keep hair sections small! The most common mistake made while styling hair with a flat iron is trying to iron too much of hair at once. This leads to uneven heating and therefore uneven styling. Small sections mean less passes with the iron and straighter hair!
Also too much hair between the plates of a flat iron also leads to heating the hair of your full lace wig longer to get it to straighten. This prolonged heat will damage the hair of your full lace wig beyond repair.
Once you have a manageable section, press it between the plates of the flat iron, staring close to the lace cap and, maintaining a gentle pressure, draw the iron down to the tips of the hair. Your movement should be even and moderately fast – do not allow the iron to linger on any portion of the hair for long.
Flipping with a Flat Iron
This technique has the same basic as straightening with a flat iron, except that when you are almost near the tip of your hair, turn the flat iron in the direction you want the flip to go and glide it the rest of the way through. Experiment with starting at different points along your hair for your perfect flip!
Curling with a Flat Iron
A flat iron that has rounded or curved plates creates curls easier. Unlike a regular curling iron, hair is not wrapped around the iron and curled up to the lace cap base of your full lace wig. Instead, clamp a 1" section of the hair of your full lace wig close to lace cap base with the flat iron and turn the iron about 1 and a half turn in the direction you want to curl.
Firmly hold the flat iron at this angle, and pull it through the length of the strand of hair while maintaining the flat iron's position.
Repeat the same method for the rest of your curls - if the hair of your full lace wig is 18”+ long, you can pin each new curls up as you go, in order to make sure that they stay nicely curled until you have completed your styling.
To keep the hair of your full lace wig stay perfectly styled the whole day or/and night, use a lightweight wig hairspray, which contains no harsh alcohol derived ingredients that is so harmful for the hair of your unit.
Protect your Flat Iron
Take good care of your flat iron! It is a great styling tool! Simply storing it in a heat proof pouch when not in use. This will protect your flat iron perfectly and prolong the life of your tool for long time.
Clean your flat iron from time to time – more frequently if you use leave in conditioners or heat serums, or if you use your flat iron every week or even more often. Build-up on the plates can cause the hair of the full lace wig to snag and shorten the life of the flat iron’s plates.
To clean your flat iron just heat it and then wipe it down with a non-abrasive cloth - use a flat iron cleaner if you use leave-in treatments frequently, but avoid chemical solvents not meant for cleaning such styling tool.
